Seminario DAS: Seeing the Universe in Full: CTAO and ESO’s Scientific Synergy

Abstract: The CherenkovTelescope Array (CTA) is progressing in its construction at the southernsite near the Paranal Observatory, hosted by ESO. Together withthe northern site in La Palma, Spain, CTA will provide full-sky coverageand unprecedented sensitivity for astronomical observations at very highenergies (20 GeV – 300 TeV), improving by at least an order of magnitudeover current instruments. My talk examines several scientific cases inwhich the combined use of CTA and other ESO facilities can substantiallyadvance our understanding across multiple areas of astronomy, potentiallypaving the way for major breakthroughs in physics and astrophysics. Thisincludes the rapidly growing field of multi-messenger astronomy, where thejoint study of electromagnetic signals, neutrinos, and gravitational wavesoffers a new perspective on the universe. To keep the message focused andengaging, I will concentrate on a selected number of topics that mayappeal to a broad audience, illustrating how synergies among these facilitiescan transform ambitious questions into meaningful progress.
